Kitesurf Spots around Mauritius

Mauritius is a kitesurfing paradise, come and discover the best spots to surf the waves of the Indian Ocean.

The Kitesurfing season in Mauritius starts in APRIL and continues until the end of NOVEMBER. The trade winds from the south west blow heavily during the winter from 15 to 30 knots. If you are planning a kitesurfing holiday in Mauritius, this is the best time!!!

During the warmer months, from December to March, the winds slow down and sometimes turn from the north, making us warm days of constant wind in spots where normally the wind does not arrive.

The northern part of the island is more wind resistant, protected from the mountains the winds tend to slow down and are usually not as strong as the other side of the island.

This is the reason why the south of Mauritius offers perfect Kitesurfing conditions throughout the year with the best spots on the island, suitable for any level.

Le Morne (best spot)

Located in the south / east the most famous and important Kitesurf spot of the island, the best play ground for all levels with winds mainly SOUTH / EAST with south rotations and rare NORTH summer days.

Kite Lagune

Large bay sheltered from the distant reef, it offers ON-SHORE winds with flat water and mostly sandy shallows perfect for beginner kitesurfing courses or for those who want to progress in FREESTYLE or simply FREERIDE. TIPS: for FREESTYLE recommended on the left of the lagoon at low tide, points with very flat water are formed !!

La Pointe (one eye spot)

The name "The Point" to the left of the large channel sheltered by the distant reef says it, this small strip of sand is the launch area, strong and constant SIDE SHORE winds give a touch of perfection to this spot. Flat water and waves for all levels the choice is yours.

Benitier island (only north wind)

Benitier island (Coconut island), located in the lagoon in front of La Gaulette, is a flat island full of vegetation surrounded by sandy beaches, shallow water as far as the eye can see perfect for learning or for lovers of flat water, ATTENTION the spot only works 10/20 times a year with winds from the NORTH. It can be reached by boat or directly by kite from some points in La Gaulette / Case Royal.

Bel Ombre

About 20 min. from le Morne to the south we find Bel Ombre, works with SOUTH, SOUTH & EAST SOUTH EAST winds, long but narrow sandy beach, sometimes the wind on the beach is gusty not easy to launch the kite but once outside the wind stabilizes , there are 2 exit channels on the distant reef and 2 fun but not easy to read waves, it is not recommended to go alone and without warning, the reef is far and not too controlled. Recommended at high tide !!

Cemitery waves spot

Following the coast we arrive at Riviere des Galets village on the sea, the wave is in front of a cemetery, left, works with high tide max 2/3 meters and good period (low reef) launches from the beach above the wind, it is not easy the wind is gusty but once out it stabilizes. Advanced / expert side wind side / off is also Surf spot.

Riambel

Riambel 40 min from le Morne is the most SOUTH spot on the island, works with SOUTH, SOUTH / EAST winds, EAST is a sheltered sand strip offering beautiful days of flat water and constant winds.

Pointe d'Esny beach

Continuing east we find the last spot in the south, famous for foil, freeride, flat water. works with all winds from SOUTH AND EAST.

Trou d’Eau Douce, Palmar, Belle mare, Poste Lafayette

Located to the east these 4 very similar spots, large sandy bays with shallow waters good for beginners, SIDE ON, ON winds.

Anse la Raie

Here we are in the NORTH, an excellent Kitesurf spot for beginners but also for those who love the waves, sailing in the large lagoon on the left at a certain point you will find a reef with a right wave with SIDE wind.
